(KNOE) - The Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association stopped in Choudrant Monday (Feb. 26) morning to encourage northeast Louisiana car dealerships to get involved in the legislative process concerning their industry. “We don’t have any specific legislative priorities this session. What we’re going to use this session to do is educate, educate, educate and educate why our dealers are important to Louisiana’s economy,” said LADA’s president and CEO Coulter McMahen. ”We’re job creators. Thirty-three thousand six hundred jobs our dealerships create.” The association held one of its regional meetings from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant to get to know employees and issues local dealerships face. One dealership president in central Louisiana described one challenge he recently encountered. “Just last week we had an issue with a manufacturer that didn’t want to allow us to put a documentary fee on our paperwork, which is allowed by law for us to do,” said President Lawrence Searcy of Walker Automotive. Searcy says the LADA stepped in to help him with that problem. President McMahen said that’s only one of the ways the association helps his industry which generates more than $700 million in sales tax. He says they’ll make sure this new legislature is aware of their economic impact. “They’re philanthropic leaders - $18 million collectively last year they gave to their community. But they’re also a tax base. Y’all are also a tax base - $733 million in sales tax revenue. The legislators need to know that,” McMahen said during his presentation. The regular legislative session will convene at noon on March 11. Copyright 2024 KNOE. All rights reserved.
